Base Pay Range $310.00/daily Who We Are We are a true pioneer in expedition travel. Summary This position supports the expedition as the expert and specialist in natural history for particular regions around the world. The Naturalist works with the rest of the field staff to deliver the itinerary daily. The Naturalist should expect contract periods of a minimum of 3‑5 weeks at a time with varying hours each day based on the itinerary. Engaging presentations, recaps, and in‑field interpretation are essential duties. Excellent social skills, dining with guests, and working in a multi‑national environment are required. Geology Focused Naturalist – Specific Expertise Required Focus on geology knowledge and experience communicating to a variety of audiences. Communicates complex geological concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences, ranging from small groups to large audiences. Leads educational hikes and interactive programs focused on geological features, processes, and history. Creatively engages with guests and shares knowledge in ways that are personable, comfortable, and inspiring continued learning opportunities and discussion. Desired Qualifications and Requirements In‑depth natural history knowledge of destination. Adaptable to diverse geographic regions. Previous experience guiding or working in destination. A team‑player with excellent training skills and a proven educator. Works well independently and is a self‑starter. Strong communicator with individuals and groups, even‑tempered demeanor, and remains calm under pressure. Must be able to handle multiple tasks at one time with keen attention to detail. Bachelor's degree or four years of work experience in a related industry. Essential Duties Lead engaging walks and offer field interpretation throughout the voyage. Participate in evening recaps to highlight guests' daily experiences. Prepare several Power Point (or similar) presentations of 30‑40 minutes in length, highlighting particular and relevant themes of the voyage. Write the Daily Expedition Report one or more times during the voyage. Respond to requests in a timely manner and be highly visible to guests throughout the voyage. Accompany guests ashore with local guides on culturally‑focused itineraries and monitor quality control of these excursions. Possess general comfort with public speaking. Possess excellent problem‑solving skills, make sound decisions quickly, and exercise good judgment. Mitigate guest complaints as best as possible and bring them to the attention of the Expedition Leader, as needed. Consistently represent Lindblad Expeditions with integrity and professionalism. Eat meals with guests and make an effort to dine with a variety of people over the course of each voyage. Other Responsibilities Promotion/Sales – Familiar with company philosophy and various programs; address and field questions from guests. Conservation/Sustainability – Discuss Lindblad Expeditions‑National Geographic's conservation and sustainability programs where scheduled. Zodiac Operations – Assist with many aspects of Zodiac operations for shore excursions; familiarity with Zodiacs is a preference. Safety – Participate in on‑board safety training, drills, and shore‑based training as required; must be very familiar with the Field Staff Handbook. Communication Skills Using English, ability to read, write, and comprehend policies, legal guidelines, correspondence, and memos. Must effectively communicate—both in writing and orally—with a professional demeanor. Physical Demands Frequently required to sit, talk, and hear; write and type; occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Physical demands per position are described in the Job Analysis sheet and are available to all applicants upon request. Compensation Statement Lindblad Expeditions determines the pay for contracts and positions using local, national, and industry‑specific survey data. Our posted daily range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.
