British School Salalah, is seeking an outstanding, experienced leader in education to drive the ongoing development of The British School, Salalah (BSS). Following the relocation of the current post holder, we are seeking to appoint an effective and experienced Head Teacher to maintain and further develop our excellent standards of education.


About the school

The British School Salalah is a small, nonprofit, nonselective, coeducational community school gifted to the British community in Salalah in the 1970s by the Sultan of Oman. It began its life as a few huts on the beach built to educate the children of the British Military who were posted in Salalah in the 1980s and, over the passage of time, has blossomed into a school that educates 140 children of many different nationalities on a purpose-built site in Dahariz.

We care about our community and each other and know our students and families personally, enabling positive working relationships. We are a welcoming, open, friendly school with children from a variety of backgrounds, countries, and cultures. The children interact well together and form genuine friendships without borders.

The school is run by a Board of Governors made up of parents, teachers and influential professional members of the community in Salalah. The school is in an exciting time of growth, this year adding year 9 with plans to continue to ;

A Journey of Discovery

From the gentle introduction to learning that is provided by our Bananas Nursery Program through to the steps taken towards independence in Years 7, 8 and 9, the British School Salalah curriculum provides its students with a varied approach to learning that builds on each child's individual strengths while, at the same time, pulling the whole school together in a bond of mutual respect and collaboration.

The Learning Program

The National Curriculum of England and Wales is based on a structured and broad framework that outlines expected levels of achievement for the duration of the children's education and provides a regular program of assessment and evaluation.

The Role

The Head Teacher, is in charge of the day-to-day running of the school and all matters pertaining to the curriculum and assessment, supported by a dedicated team of teachers and administration staff.

The Head Teacher will inspire, lead, develop and manage all aspects of school life, including playing a key role in nurturing the values and culture of the school. Critical to their success will be the continued delivery of the school's unerring focus on achieving the very highest standards and building strong purposeful relationships within the community.

The successful applicant will

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar position.

• Hold a bachelor degree and a teaching qualification.

• Be an excellent teacher and effective, experienced school leader and an authority on the UK National Curriculum.

• Provide strategic leadership within the context of pursing the mission and promoting the values of the school; assist in teaching when the necessity arises.

• Stimulate and enhance the quality of the total educational experience at the school including directing and coordinating projects and initiatives that enrich students' experiences of service and learning.

• Take a sincere interest in students and foster a warm and open environment that is responsive to the needs of the community.

• Acknowledge responsibility for personal professional development.

• Develop and lead an effective educational and administrative team to ensure excellence in academics, community service, and general operations of the school.

• Provide support in marketing and development activities, in communicating the purpose and significance of the school to key sources of support, and provide leadership in ensuring the sustainable future of the school.

• Develop and implement effective communications with the students, staff, parents, all relevant government Ministries and at times the local community.
