The Role: The Managing Editor - Steel Policy & Industries is an exciting new role within the revitalized Platts Metals team. The role involves responsibility for steel-related news, and managing a team of experienced reporters located across several Asian offices. This person will be expected to ensure a news output of the highest quality standards with a strong focus on value-added, insight-filled stories, with a timely and original response to breaking news, as well as robust coverage of particular areas including policy and downstream steel-consuming industries.
The Impact: Besides having established itself as a leader in iron ore, coking coal and steel pricing, Platts and Steel Business Briefing have a long history of delivering relevant and timely news to the steel industry. This role represents an opportunity to bring this news coverage to the next level in terms of depth and scope.

Your Skills: Extensive steel industry experience and exceptional writing skills are a must, though your ability to motivate and coach a remote team will also be key.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and coach an internal team focused primarily on steel-related news, but whose tasks also include some price reporting
- Strategize and implement response to major breaking news
- Seek opportunities to improve ongoing news flow in downstream steel industries
- Regularly engage market participants, helping you stay abreast of latest market developments
- Regularly chair or moderate conferences or panels at Platts or third-party conferences
- Be a strong presence in TV and print interviews with mainstream media on steel-related topics
- Sharpen your team's writing skills, and take an active role in doing so for the whole Asian Metals team
- Build close working relationships with key internal stakeholders
Qualifications:
- Minimum of Bachelor's degree or similar level university degree
- Excellent English writing skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to read and write Mandarin a plus
- Good organizational planning skills; able to work collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced team environment
- Must be comfortable with Microsoft excel, powerpoint and large data sets
- Adept at managing multiple tasks and adhering to regular deadlines. Able to prioritize quickly and to readjust priorities
- Self-driven, energetic and proactive
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, global, multi-cultural environment
