Duties:

Assessing and managing patients (including investigations and treatment) with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions including dementia and psychiatric functional illnesses in the inpatient setting and ensuring that interventions are provided in a sensitive, accessible and culturally appropriate way.

    To attend CPA meetings for inpatients.

    To liaise with the Intensive, community intensive team, dementia specialist team and Inpatient services as appropriate to facilitate the smooth handover of clients between services.

    To assess inpatients on the wards under the auspices of the Mental Health Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

    Teaching, supervision and development of Junior medical and non-medical staff

    To support and participate in Clinical Governance and Audit and in particular the design and completion of any service evaluation.

    To comply with all Trust policies including Equal Opportunities policies and to promote equality of access to healthcare at all times.

    Contribute to audits and ongoing research activity

Person Specification:

    MBBS or equivalent

    MD / DNB in Psychiatry

    MRCPsych / FRCPsych or equivalent

    Minimum 7 years full time post graduate experience

    Minimum of 2 years continuous Old Age psychiatry experience

    Consultant level experience

    GMC registration (or eligible to secure GMC registration)

    Efficiency in Teamwork and superior communication skills

    Leadership and Management skills
