Job details
Filing of bid documents, contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders is part of the job. It's important to keep change orders -- issued when a contractor or owner initiates a change to the original scope of the job -- filed accurately and in order. Project foremen or superintendents may keep a daily project diary that you'll maintain. Schedule meetings, maintain a staff calendar, distribute correspondence and prepare documents.
Project managers oversee construction jobs and many companies also employ project engineers to assist them. In smaller companies, you may perform some of the duties typically assigned to project engineers. You might process RFIs (requests for information) sent to project architects or organize a library of material samples. You also may assist the project accountant by copying invoices for job costing and billing. The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) has strict regulations on the posting of information for employees, so you may be responsible for posting workplace safety posters and maintaining forms for reporting to OSHA.
