Responsibilities

• Respond to customers' complaints and take necessary actions resolve their issues

• Take payment in exchange of items sold

• Bag, box and wrap purchased items

• Identify prices of goods using memory or scanner

• Enter transactions in the cash register and provide customers with the total bill

• Sort and count currency and coins

• Issue receipts and change to customers

• Count money at the beginning and ending of each shift

• Process exchanges and refunds

• Ensure that all checkout counters have enough cash

• Process credit card and check payments

• Weigh items and determine prices of the same

• Issue trading stamps and gift cards

• Perform the duties of customer service representative when required

• Maintain periodic sales reports and spreadsheets

• Assist in stocking shelves, rotating merchandise and marking prices

• Ensure management of daily cash accounts

• Create periodic transaction reports

• Ensure maintenance of checkout areas

• Resolve customer complaints in a proactive manner

• Open and close tills

• Train other staff members to work as cashier

• Maintain knowledge of store inventory and sales activities

• Keep the work area tidy and clean

 Welcome customers and ensure that they are being properly looked after by sales representatives

• Assist customers in locating their choices of items by providing them with direction to aisles

• Escort customers to shelves or aisles where their choice of items are located

• Provide information regarding prices and demonstrate product features

• Make customers aware of any special deals or discounts offered by the store

• Lead customers through the purchasing process by providing them with information on location of checkout counters

• Scan purchases on the POS system and total amounts of all items

• Take and process cash and credit card transactions and return change and receipts

• Ascertain that customers' purchases are appropriately bagged and delivered to their vehicles

• Balance cash drawers at the end of each shift and ensure that any discrepancies are immediately seen to

• Ascertain that sufficient change is available at the beginning of each shift

• Create and maintain reports related to cash received against sold goods

• Process returns and exchanges by following set policies of the company

• Address problems and customers' complaints in a proactive manner to ensure customer satisfaction and return business
