Policy Analyst

Policy Analyst can identify and prioritize immediate and long-range policy issues, to shape compelling, effective and informed policies. They are relaxed as subject generalists (even if they have a strong disciplinary base), who are ready and able to take on any new topic, and work it up into effective policy that supports effective diplomacy. Policy Analysts ensure that the department is well aware of critical policy developments in the files/regions under their responsibility, and support that the UAE is able to influence these issues in a timely and effective way. The Policy Analyst reports to the Head of Section. S/he will also liaise closely with the Director, Deputies and with other Advisers in the Department. Role Description To carry out research of various kinds and produce briefing notes, reports and presentations to support policy and diplomatic work Anticipate and identify emerging policy trends, working closely with other analysts, Heads of Section and other departments as relevant Support the department to cultivate and maintain a network of policy-makers, diplomats and academics, as relevant to the files under their responsibility Research and understand the main views and policy orientation of key states and stakeholders Build and share a sophisticated and practical understanding of the dynamics of global politics, as it effects the UAE’s foreign policy and diplomacy. Take part in bilateral, multilateral and public meetings and events as necessary Main Tasks Provide analysis and support on key regional and international issues, as well as domestic UAE related issues Provide support to the Section Heads, experts, and diplomats of the Policy Planning Department on key regional and international issues Provide policy papers and analysis on regional and international issues, and contribute to executive briefs prepared for the UAE leadership. Assist in the execution of policies in support of the UAE’s foreign policy interests Support and provide quality assurance for communications with relevant internal and external stakeholders Support the UAE’s preparation for and participation in international, regional, and local meetings, dialogues, and conferences Required Experience and Expertise 3-5 years of professional experience working in government, academia, think-tanks or international organizations Track record in researching, formulating and producing global policy products Familiarity with foreign policies, strategies, institutions and operational environment Experience of working effectively in multi-disciplinary teams A Bachelor's (Hons) degree that gives clear evidence of strong intellectual skills Essential Skills and Personal Profile A sophisticated understanding of international relations and global trends Knowledge of key political and policy actors, structures, power relations and decision-making Particular knowledge of foreign policy and practice Analytical capacity that is critical, strategic, descriptive, predictive, qualitative/quantitative Excellent communication skills, specifically in writing and editing briefs, reports and preparing presentations An ability to deliver results, both independently and in a team Excellent people and collaborative teamwork skills The ability to present complicated issues in a simple and compelling way Evident curiosity, creativity and agility Institutional and Diplomatic Competencies Collaboration Commitment Relationship Building Flexibility Adherence to Directives and Deadlines Data Research and Collection Problem Analysis and Solving Attention to Detail Diplomatic Protocol Personal Acuity Cultural Adaptability Analysis and Development of Diplomatic Foresight Diplomatic Knowledge Development #J-18808-Ljbffr
