Job Description To systematically prepare anaesthesia sites, upholding the safety standards of anaesthesia and associated equipment. Provide skilled assistance for the anaesthesiologist and anesthesia provider, adhering to the roles and responsibilities defined in the Scope of Practice of an anaesthesia technician/technologist. Responsibilities Assist in establishing, maintaining, and recording the functional integrity of all anesthesia equipment, including regular checks and routine inspections by biomedical engineers. Equipment includes anesthesia machines, infusion pumps, and airway equipment. Assist in preparing and re-preparing the anesthesia environment daily, including all equipment and materials needed for procedures. Participate in shifting the patient to the operating room, ensuring proper positioning to prevent pressure injuries, and transferring the patient to PACU or ICU. Participate in sign-in, timeout, and sign-out procedures for patient safety. Under the supervision and prescription of the anesthesiologist, prepare and administer anesthesia medications. Provide skilled assistance during induction and maintenance of anesthesia, including patient monitoring throughout procedures. Assist in emergency resuscitation efforts, anticipating evolving circumstances such as intraoperative cardiac arrest, difficult airway management, and invasive monitoring. Collect and analyze blood samples, utilizing Point-of-Care Testing. Administer blood and blood products as necessary to optimize patient care. Perform routine checks of anesthesia carts for restocking and expiry, and complete daily anesthesia documentation. Troubleshoot technical or clinical adverse events intraoperatively. Clean and disinfect equipment and prepare the operating room for subsequent cases within turnaround times. Follow safety precautions for environmental safety and infection control to deliver high-quality patient care. Accountabilities Prepare the operating room daily according to the case, calibrate and check all anesthesia equipment, and ensure availability of consumables. Prepare and administer intravenous anesthesia drugs under supervision, and witness narcotics, controlled, and semi-controlled drug dispensing. Establish peripheral intravenous access and assist in central and arterial line insertions for intraoperative monitoring. Support the anesthesiologist during induction, maintenance, and reversal of anesthesia, including regional anesthesia. Monitor and report patient vital signs, intervening as required. Qualifications Experience Required: At least 2 years of experience in an active anesthesia department. Educational Qualifications Required: BSc in Anesthesia, or Registered Nurse with specialized anesthesia training, or Registered Respiratory Technician with specialized anesthesia training, and current national license. #J-18808-Ljbffr
