Role Overview The Manager, Urban Designer at Modon Properties will focus on hands-on design development from early conceptual stages, including visioning and pre-concept design. The role requires a creative, innovative approach to develop visionary urban spaces, leading high-level pre-concept and envisioning design development using out-of-the-box problem-solving techniques. Roles and Responsibilities Lead urban design projects from conceptual genesis to the developed vision stage, ensuring cohesive and innovative design outcomes. Establish and oversee visualization and graphics production processes. Manage schedules, deliverables, and issue resolution effectively. Develop master planning and urban design visions, employing a hands-on approach to create innovative studies and solutions. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects and landscape architects, to ensure integrated design outcomes. Visualize and communicate master plans through sketching and digital tools. Create detailed 3D models using Sketch Up, Rhino, and other tools. Develop diagrams with Adobe Illustrator and craft visual presentations with In Design and Power Point. Engage in creative problem-solving for urban design challenges. Manage multiple projects, maintaining high standards of quality. Conduct site analyses and context studies to inform design decisions. Work with commercial and development teams to align urban design with strategic objectives. Produce high-quality visualizations and renderings in collaboration with visualization teams. Prepare test fits for various development concepts. Present design visions to leadership, articulating rationale and impact. Stay updated on urban design trends and technologies. Utilize data tools like Excel and GIS to support design decisions. Analyze precedent and benchmark studies to inform design development. Participate in workshops and brainstorming sessions. Mentor junior team members, fostering professional growth. Optional: Develop scripts to optimize workflows and data analysis. Update stakeholders on key findings and best practices. Establish a repository of case studies and precedents. Qualifications and Education Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or related field. 12-15+ years of urban design experience, focusing on master planning in early design stages. At least 5 years in a top-tier consultancy, with experience in the GCC, especially UAE. Local experience in the UAE/GCC is highly advantageous. Preferred Skills and Competencies Extensive experience in master planning and urban design, especially early stages. Keen design intuition and project inception capability. Proficiency in 3D modeling (Sketch Up, Rhino) and Adobe Creative Suite. Strong graphic skills and ability to create compelling visual narratives. Knowledge of dataset creation, Excel, and GIS. Optional: scripting skills for workflow enhancement. Creative, innovative problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Knowledge of UAE building codes and regulations. Fluent in English; Arabic proficiency is a plus. Ability to adapt to shifting project demands while maintaining quality. Experience mentoring junior designers.
