Senior Sound Designer & Programmer
Description
The Senior Sound Designer & Programmer is responsible for designing, programming, and implementing world-class audio solutions across a range of entertainment offerings including live shows, immersive experiences, and seasonal activations. This role ensures all sound designs support creative storytelling, meet brand and safety standards, and are executed at the highest technical level. The role supports long-term innovation in audio design and technology while mentoring sound team members. · Develop and implement immersive and impactful sound designs for live events, shows, and interactive experiences. · Program playback systems, digital audio consoles, and automation equipment. · Work closely with creative teams to translate scripts and direction into rich sonic environments. · Mix shows during rehearsals and performances to deliver consistent audio quality Project Management & Technical Oversight · Oversee setup, tuning, and operation of PA systems, microphones, playback, and comms during productions. · Ensure system designs and deployments are optimized for each venue and performance type. · Prepare system documentation including signal flow diagrams, cue sheets, and safety checklists. · Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure equipment functionality and delivery. · Supervise audio crew, freelancers, and vendors during pre-production and show operations. · Train junior sound personnel and ensure adherence to departmental protocols. · Maintain an inventory of audio equipment and support procurement of new technology. R&D and Asset Development · Research and implement new tools in immersive audio, spatial sound, and interactivity. · Contribute to strategic planning for upgrades and sound capabilities across entertainment venues. · Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Sound Design, Audio Engineering, or Technical Theatre. · Minimum 8 years of professional experience in live sound design, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity. · Expertise in sound design, playback software (e.g., QLab, Ableton Live), and digital audio consoles (e.g., Yamaha, Di Gi Co). · Proficient in signal flow, RF coordination, and system tuning (Smaart, Lake, etc.). · Strong creative judgment and cueing abilities. · Excellent collaboration and communication skills. · Advanced certifications in audio programming, system tuning, or immersive sound technologies. · Experience in theme parks, theatrical productions, or large-scale entertainment environments. · Familiarity with spatial audio and immersive sound platforms. · Experience integrating audio with timecode, show control systems, and multimedia.
