Clinical Coder-Coding

The Clinical Coder reviews, analyzes, and codes documentation for hospital medical records to select and sequence the appropriate ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT procedure codes. This position is responsible for accurate assignment, abstracting to determine record accuracy and completeness, and utilizing the 3M Coding Reimbursement system to compile data. Coding staff in this role can code encounters across multiple specialties and are capable of mentoring and training other coding levels. The role involves using encoder software, online tools, and references to facilitate code assignment, consulting reference materials as needed. The coder validates charges by comparing them with health record documentation, understands the appropriate linkage of diagnoses to procedures, and uses retrospective edit tools to address coding or documentation issues. They collaborate with CDI teams, physicians, and other healthcare providers to clarify or obtain additional information, and work with Revenue Cycle Management to resolve billing and utilization issues affecting reimbursement. #J-18808-Ljbffr
