Job Description Senior Technical Safety Engineer Reporting To: Technical Safety Department Manager Responsibilities: Act as Technical Safety Loss Prevention team lead for feasibility and concept study, pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed design for assigned projects. Prepare and review HSE design philosophies, including Fire & Gas Detection and Fire Protection. Prepare and review loss prevention deliverables such as firefighting system calculations, hydraulic studies, PFDs, P&IDs, layouts, equipment datasheets & specifications, passive fire protection schedules & drawings, fire & gas detection layouts, cause & effect diagrams, hazardous area classification schedules & drawings, escape routes & safety signs drawings. Provide technical safety loss prevention input and review engineering documents from other disciplines, including process P&IDs, cause and effect diagrams, shutdown & blowdown philosophies, safety system architectures, general arrangements, and plot plans, ensuring project scope, safety, and constructability considerations. Initiate and manage safety/technical safety studies performed by specialists, such as HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID, QRA, FERA, EERA, inherent safety reviews, dropped object studies, LOPA/SIL studies, fire & gas mapping, dispersion studies, building protection studies, SCE identification, and performance standards. Coordinate, monitor, and handle technical safety engineering and design activities with EPC contractors, ensuring completion within the agreed timeframe. Collaborate with other discipline engineers within PMC, EPC contractors, vendors, and client/site interface teams to resolve technical issues and ensure safety, quality, and engineering integrity. Provide technical guidance and training to discipline and junior engineers to maintain schedule adherence and document quality. Requirements: Minimum 12-15 years of experience in technical safety and loss prevention within hydrocarbon production or engineering consultancy, with experience on onshore, offshore, and pipeline projects. Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering; a master's degree in technical safety or certification as a Functional Safety Engineer/Professional is advantageous. Experience leading internal project safety reviews such as HAZID, ENVID, HAZOP, SIL, etc., is preferred. Knowledge of relevant international codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, API, IEC) and HSE legislative requirements. Strong understanding of recognized engineering and life safety/fire codes and standards. Familiarity with standards of reputed oil & gas companies like Shell, BP, Chevron, and ADNOC Group. Excellent communication skills, team-oriented, enthusiastic, and capable of mentoring engineers.
