Hospital Pharmacist
Description
Provides pharmacy services to patients and medical practitioners. Fills prescriptions, dispenses medicines, counsels patients and medical practitioners regarding the nature and use of drugs, and trains and/or supervises assistant pharmacist. Prepares and maintains all necessary records on prescriptions, patient charges, and inventory. Duties and Responsibilities: Makes decisions regarding generic substitution of prescribed pharmaceuticals. Provides information about over-the-counter drugs and makes recommendations after talking with the patient. Counsels patients and/or medical practitioners on drug indications/contraindications, dosage, drug interactions, and side effects; provides other drug and pharmaceutical information as appropriate. Provides guidance and training to assistant pharmacist during the course of work and monitors performance. Establishes and maintains methods and manner of storage and record-keeping systems to provide for the safekeeping of pharmaceuticals. Takes patient histories as required; makes initial clinical assessments and refers patients to appropriate clinicians. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Completes third-party insurance forms and other paperwork. Maintains confidential computerized records of patients’ drug therapies to prevent harmful drug interactions. Follows insurance companies’ policies and procedures. Monitors nearing expiry/expired items to dispose of them according to policy. Assures the accuracy of every prescription processed. Reports any violation of departments’ policies and procedures to the chief Pharmacist. Ensures pharmacy staff compliance with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. Performs any job-related duties as assigned by the chief pharmacist. Stays current on developments within the field by reading industry publications and seeking information on industry best practices. Works in collaboration with other departments to maximize the patient experience, consistent with the organization’s values of “teamwork,” “partnership,” and “quality.” Qualification: Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. Experience: Minimum of two (2) years recent experience. Knowledge / Technical Skills: Able to relate to people from different cultural backgrounds. Readily and effectively communicates with others, both verbally and in writing. Fluent in written and spoken English; Arabic fluency is an advantage. Demonstrated organizational skills. Works effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Follows specific instructions with a high degree of accuracy. A high degree of motivation and self-discipline. Ability to make sound decisions and take appropriate action when needed. Interpersonal skills - exercises tact, patience, and understanding.
