Accountabilities: The Director leads implementation of external communications strategieswith a primary focus on media relations while also contributing tobroader efforts to shape Astra Zenecas external reputation. The rolesupports planning and execution aligned to the priorities of the International and Europe & Canada regions and those of Global Media Relations (GMR). It provides strategic communicationscounsel assessment integrated planning and execution in support ofsenior leaders Therapeutic Areas (TA) andfunctional/cross-functional objectives. The Director plays a keyrole in shaping external perceptions of Astra Zeneca by proactivelyleading media engagement around key TA/brand achievements majorinitiatives policies and issues reinforcing the companysscience-led reputation. The role also involves assessing thecompetitive media and overall external landscape to use externalcommunication opportunities and identify issues to bemitigated. Develops anddrives media relations campaigns and ongoing communication for usewith media across the International and Europe & Canadaregions to promote Astra Zeneca our brands and otherinitiatives. Builds andmaintains relationships with key regional and national businesstrade and broadcast mediaoutlets/reporters. Serves asspokesperson for company on company topics news flow and issueswhile proactively pitching media and responding to mediarequests. Developsstatements press releases and executive messages to reflect thecompanys position on various proactive and reactive mattersincluding material/share-price sensitiveevents. Coaches seniorleaders on media interview techniques/external speaking skills andsupports senior leaders on media and speakingengagements. Collaboratesclosely with internal TA colleagues to ensure brand messages areproactively shared with top-tier contacts and appropriately pulledthrough in all corporate external communicationsactivities. Helps leadissues management and crisis preparedness activities for situationsthat could adversely impact Astra Zeneca. Supports indeveloping and implementing a digital channel strategy for socialblog and website. Developsand maintains in close collaboration with the in-country affiliatesa media and social media measurement approach to evaluate progressagainst Astra Zenecas corporate reputationobjectives. Evaluatescapabilities of in-country spokespeople and media relationscapabilities and develops and leads capability buildingprogrammes. Essential Skills/Experience: 10-15years of hands-on experience in leading proactive/reactive mediarelations programmes on behalf of a multinational company involvingcomplex regulatory legal financial etc. issues including litigationand business results. Atrack record of maintaining strong relationships with financialpharma trade and consumermedia. Previous employmentin a regional or global levelrole. Excellent verbal andwritten communication skills with the ability to craft clearcompelling messages acrosschannels. Experiencepartnering with senior leaders to support media interviews andtheir effectiveness in other executive externalengagements. Desirable Skills/Experience: Knowledgeof pharmaceutical and/or healthcareindustry Prior journalismexperience Bachelors degreein Communications Public Relations Journalism or a relatedfield.
