Turquoise Mountain's team in Jordan is working on projects to assess, survey, design and deliver buildings in traditional and modern materials in Amman and further afield in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. We are looking for an exceptional early-career professional to join our hard-working and passionate team on a variety of interesting architectural projects. Working alongside and reporting to Turquoise Mountain's International Conservation Architect, we need an Assistant Architect to help with all stages of our building projects - from initial design to project management - on both historic and new buildings. The successful candidates' specific day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Carrying out initial surveys and measurements, drawing and assessment of building projects.
Carrying out architectural research related to relevant projects.
Assisting with writing and illustrating a variety of documents for presenting building projects.
Assisting in maintaining appropriate computer systems including drawings and file structures.
Producing drawings for all stages of a project, from initial concepts to final detail drawings.
Producing models for all stages of a project, from initial concept models to presentation pieces.
Assisting with community engagement and meetings with stakeholders as needed.
Assisting with liaising and coordinating with national, regional and municipal authorities.
Assisting with any other tasks as directed by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
The position is open to early-career professionals with a minimum of 3 years' experience working in architecture, engineering or the building industry and holding a completed architecture degree with best results. No other degrees will be considered. All candidates must have an interest in historic buildings and traditional architecture while being creative and passionate about new design. They will be task oriented and detail-focused, work well in groups and take instructions clearly, demonstrate flexibility, patience and initiative. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and be diplomatic in their approach when working with a variety of stakeholders. High level Arabic and English language skills (reading, writing and translation ability) are vital as well as excellent knowledge of computer software (AutoCAD, Photoshop, InDesign, Sketchup etc.) and have good hand-drawing and model making skills. A full driving license and a clean driving record is essential. Travel around Jordan and working away from Amman for extended periods will be part of the work. International travel may also be required.
Contract Period:6 months (3 month probation period) renewable
Working Days:5 days per week (Sunday to Thursday, 9am to 5pm)
