Overview: The Buyer is responsible for executing and refining the buying strategy, identifying buying opportunities, and ensuring the brand remains competitive through strategic sourcing, proactive weekly trade analysis, seasonal analysis, and in-depth market analysis. This role focuses on driving product sourcing, monitoring market trends, and maintaining strong vendor relationships while empowering the team to work independently. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Planning & Data-Driven Decision Making:
- Use data-driven analysis to optimize buying decisions and build seasonal strategies; ensure all actions are aligned with profitability goals and market demand.
- Conduct proactive weekly trade analysis and seasonal performance reviews to identify buying opportunities and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Lead deep market analysis, including store and competitor evaluations, to gain a thorough understanding of trends and informed buying decisions.
- Build product sign-off based on store fixture and campaign requirements, ensuring product selections align with available capacity and business needs.
- Work closely with the design team to develop seasonal ranges based on strategic buying plans, utilizing sales performance data and market insights to inform decisions.
- Always be on the hunt for new potential key lines to support the buying strategy and drive growth.
- Work closely with the Planning team to ensure cover targets are met and monitor stock levels for all key lines.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, ensuring product quality, competitive pricing, and timely delivery.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest trends in the assigned categories, ensuring the department remains proactive in responding to market changes.
- Continuously monitor competitor activity to ensure the brand maintains a competitive edge in product sourcing and range development.
- Empower the team to work independently in fittings, vendor communication, and overall execution, providing clear guidance on department requirements.
- Foster effective communication to ensure team members understand the goals and requirements of the buying department.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business, or a related field.
- Proven experience in a buying role within the fashion retail industry, preferably in women’s apparel.
- Strong understanding of fashion trends, consumer behavior, and market dynamics.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions to drive sales and profitability.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in retail buying software and Microsoft Office Suite.
