WHAT TO EXPECT Engineering Laboratories serve as the backbone of JLR's internal vehicle testing and development capabilities. This department is responsible for a wide range of critical activities, including Structural Testing, Body Rig Testing, Road Load Data analysis, Analytical Facilities, NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness), Climatic Testing, and Safety Testing. The Facility & Technology Development (F&TD) team plays a pivotal role in supporting these core laboratory-based test areas. They are responsible for designing and delivering facility components, test rigs, and the necessary infrastructure to execute physical test plans. Additionally, the team leads the development and delivery of new facilities, cutting-edge technologies, infrastructure, and strategies—managing projects from initial concept through to final implementation. Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and commission multiple new test facilities, rigs, and systems simultaneously while providing reactive support across the business for all testing disciplines with facility, rig, or vehicle technical issues
- Support the ongoing electrification of vehicles and their systems by developing structural/safety/functional test facilities and rigs that increasingly incorporate HV (High Voltage) systems
- Lead the creation of innovative testing solutions by driving the development of HV test environments and rigs, including safety systems that meet specific requirements
- Develop hardware and software strategies for Facility & Technology Development within the capital investment programme
- Collaborate proactively with JLR teams—particularly propulsion and battery DV teams—within Product Engineering to ensure successful project delivery
- Strong knowledge of vehicle HV platforms (60 volts+)
- Proven experience in commissioning HV rig systems, including all related infrastructure considerations
- Familiarity with safety systems and PLCs (e.g., Pilz, Wieland, Bender)
- Ability to interpret and implement electrical system drawings using tools such as Visio or ePlan
- Understanding of vehicle and test communication technologies such as CAN, LIN, EtherCAT, Ethernet, and FlexRay
