This position aims to provide leadership in the creation, implementation, and evaluation of diversity and equity initiatives that strengthen the organization’s ability to serve a diverse community and workforce. This will include advising the leadership team and developing and delivering training programs for staff on strategies and best practices to promote diversity and foster an inclusive and welcoming work environment. Support will also be provided to staff, the leadership team, and the Board of Directors for the purpose of addressing complex systemic barriers within policies, procedures, and practice within BGC East Scarborough. Report to: Director, Programs & Community Services Key Duties and Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a community-focused DEI framework integrated into policies, programs, and services.
  • Analyze workforce diversity data to track progress and align with DEI goals.
  • Lead the DEI advisory committee, support inclusive hiring practices, and ensure compliance with DEI regulations.
  • Develop and deliver DEI training programs while securing funding for DEI and social impact initiatives.
  • Build partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, and businesses to enhance equitable access to services.
  • Advocate for underrepresented groups and represent the organization in external networks and coalitions.
  • Support capacity-building initiatives for older adults through strategic collaborations.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and enhance DEI programs, ensuring alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Develop work plans, budgets, and grant proposals while overseeing reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Manage staff mentorship, scheduling, and professional development.
  • Maintain required certifications and documentation, participating in meetings and flexible work arrangements as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in Equity Studies, Social Sciences, Human Rights, or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Minimum three years of experience developing and implementing DEI strategies, preferably in the public sector.
  • Strong leadership, staff supervision, and community engagement skills.
  • Experience in program design, community development, capacity building, and grant/proposal writing.
  • Proven project and change management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and internet applications.
  • Strong facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Understanding of racism, intersectionality, and their impact on diverse identities.
  • Knowledge of Older Adult health, wellness, and aging in the community.
  • Valid (or willingness to obtain) First Aid/CPR, Vulnerable Sector Check, and High Five Certification.
Working conditions · Work environment includes both indoors and outdoors; it may be required to work outdoors under hot weather during the summer. · May be required to work weekends or evenings to participate in agency events. · May be required to travel to satellite sites to attend program-related matters. · Travel is required to attend workshops/seminars and networking events.
