- Provide sound business judgment and expertise to help manage investment risk for both the firm and its investee companies.
- Collaborate with specialists from leading firms when necessary.
- A Canadian law degree with at least 7 years of corporate practice experience. The ideal candidate will possess a mix of corporate commercial, securities, private equity, and banking/specialty loan knowledge. Experience in both in-house and private practice is highly regarded.
- Additional experience in commercial litigation and insolvency is considered a plus.
- A commercially minded, practical problem solver with strong skills in critical analysis, risk assessment, creative thinking, judgment, and execution that extend beyond legal matters.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on adaptability, eagerness to learn, and a high degree of coachability.
- Detail-oriented with exceptional problem-solving abilities, demonstrating integrity and discretion.
- A member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
- Competitive base salary, annual bonus, and paid parking.
- Comprehensive health benefits, including an optional, self-paced in-house fitness program with a professional trainer.
- A commitment to work-life balance (8-hour workdays).
- A collaborative small team environment with strong camaraderie and flexibility.
- Exposure to a dynamic business landscape with a diverse portfolio, including international operations, offering varied work across multiple industries.
- In-house legal and business training to foster practical, big-picture thinking while focusing on important details.
- Opportunities for career growth and advancement, with the potential to evolve beyond a strictly legal role over time, based on performance.
- Emphasis on efficiency and accountability without the pressure of billable hour targets.
