Introduction to the School Eye Screening Program As part of our commitment to reducing preventable blindness, the School Eye Screening Program focuses on early detection and treatment of vision problems among school children. This initiative is vital in promoting eye health and ensuring that students are able to fully participate in their education without being hindered by vision issues. Job Overview We are seeking a proactive and passionate School Eye Health Officer who will engage with teachers, students, and the school community to raise awareness about eye health and cornea donation. The role involves training teachers and staff on simple techniques for identifying potential vision problems, emphasizing the importance of follow-up for students who have received refractive glasses, and providing guidance on maintaining good eye health. The ideal candidate should have strong public speaking abilities and be media-friendly, as well as comfortable traveling to various school locations to implement eye health programs. Key Responsibilities
- Engage with teachers, students, and the school community to provide tips and guidance on eye health, early detection techniques, and the importance of follow-ups for students with refractive glasses.
- Raise awareness about cornea donation and the impact it has on reducing preventable blindness.
- Conduct workshops, educational sessions, and awareness campaigns in schools on eye care and corneal donation.
- Coordinate with schools to implement regular eye screenings and promote proactive eye health measures.
- Collaborate with school administration to ensure consistent monitoring of students’ vision and follow-up care.
- Serve as a key resource for schools on matters related to eye health offering expert advice and support.
- Represent V4E in media appearances and public events to promote eye health and corneal donation.
- Ensure accurate documentation of interactions and prepare reports on the eye health initiatives conducted in schools.
- Travel to different school locations as needed to support and oversee school-based eye health programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, or a related discipline.
- Strong public speaking and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences, including teachers, students, and parents.
- Comfortable with media appearances and public speaking engagements.
- Experience in community outreach, health advocacy, or public health education is preferred.
- Ability to travel to various school locations across Karachi to implement eye health programs.
- Passion for advocating for children's health and well-being, particularly in the area of vision care and corneal donation.
