The Director of Environment Health & Safety will lead the company's health and safety initiatives, ensuring that all construction projects comply with legal and regulatory requirements. The role involves developing, implementing, and managing safety policies, procedures, and training programs to promote a safe working environment across all sites. The Director of Environment Health & Safety will work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and senior management to mitigate risks and improve safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the company’s health and safety policies, ensuring alignment with current legislation and best practices.
- Lead the development of safety management plans for construction projects.
- Establish long-term safety goals, monitoring progress and adjusting strategies as needed.
- Conduct regular risk assessments for all projects and construction sites.
- Identify potential hazards and develop risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, conducting regular audits and inspections.
- Maintain up-to-date records of incidents, near-misses, and compliance activities.
- Report on safety performance to senior management, recommending actions for improvement.
- Design and implement health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and site operatives.
- Develop an internal safety culture, ensuring that all staff understand their safety responsibilities.
- Investigate any workplace incidents, accidents, or near-misses.
- Report incidents to relevant authorities when required and ensure follow-up on corrective actions.
- Provide leadership and guidance to project managers, site managers, and subcontractors on safety matters.
- Regularly review and improve safety procedures and processes.
- Establish KPIs for health and safety performance.
- Ensure safety standards are upheld throughout all project phases, from pre-construction to post-completion.
Key Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior health and safety role, preferably within the construction industry.
- Extensive knowledge of health and safety regulations, codes, and standards.
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in occupational health and safety.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience in managing teams and safety initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety Management, or related field.
