Solicitors/prosecutors provide an effective contribution to the processing of legal matters throughout the South Australian Judicial system by preparing files for trial and through involvement in the conduct of those trials. As a solicitor/prosecutor in the ODPP, you will have daily interaction with legal and non-legal staff within the ODPP, as well as a wide range of external stakeholders including SAPOL, defence counsel, court officials, victims and witnesses. Duties and Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities performed by a solicitor/prosecutor include preparing ODPP files for prosecution, liaising with victims of crime and appearing in court on non-trial matters on the instructions of the Director in the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts of South Australia. About the Business The ODPP is an office of approximately 185 staff, comprising both legal and administrative functions. The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions was established through the Director of Public Prosecutions Act, 1991 to provide an effective, fair and independent criminal prosecution service for the people of South Australia. The Office is committed to the highest ethical and professional standards. Special Conditions for Employment Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificate clearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Some out of hours work may be required. Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required. Must hold a current Australian issued driver’s licence (equivalent to minimum class C). Must be admitted, or eligible for admission, as a practitioner of the Supreme Court of South Australia. Travel to country areas involving overnight absences may be required. Will be required to work in different teams within the ODPP. Will be exposed, either directly or indirectly to confidential, sensitive, confronting and/or distressing material including photographs, written descriptions and other evidentiary material.
