Job Purpose To develop and implement an effective strategy for providing comprehensive careers advice and universities guidance to students, building on existing systems and processes. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work with senior leaders and all teachers to assist the school achieve its goal of empowering and enriching lives for future success.
  • Guide a team of form tutors and teachers to assist students in developing, monitoring and updating their academic plans and career goals.
  • Assist students and parents with university and college admissions forms and where appropriate, assist in promoting and securing scholarships.
  • Help students aspire realistically and choose their university courses wisely.
  • Invite and welcome representatives from colleges and universities to the school, work with our Events Team to coordinate University fairs etc.
  • Develop partnerships locally and worldwide with employers and universities for the benefit of our students and their aspirations.
  • Create and update supporting documents for university admissions, such as transcripts, the school profile, and a university and college counselling handbook.
  • Oversee the administration of aptitude and achievement testing as per university requests.
  • Work with academic leads and the senior team to identify students who should be encouraged and supported to make applications to Oxbridge / Ivy League and other outstanding universities around the world.
  • Work with staff to provide advice to students and parents about iGCSE and A level and subject choices.
  • Keep accurate records of destinations, admissions decisions, awards and statistics.
  • Maintain a knowledge of the issues and trends in university admissions, higher education and testing.
  • Develop and maintain a network of NASAD student Alumni in partnership with our marketing team.
  • Co-ordinate all careers and work experience matters across KS3, 4 and 5.
  • Plan and prepare and deliver appropriate PSHME resources on careers and work related learning in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.
  • Lead staff training in relation to university guidance.
  • Support students and parents in the post exam result period around GCSE and A level results days.
  • Work with the marketing team to promote student success and keep our community informed of student destinations.
  • Support the development of our Secondary School curriculum to grow opportunities for our students in relations to careers and work-related learning.
  • Support the life of the school beyond the classroom;
  • Lead one or more agreed after school activity each week;
  • Participate in residential weeks and other trips as appropriate;
  • Contribute to whole school learning initiatives.
Pastoral Duties:
  • Establish a purposeful and safe learning environment for all students;
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and of the class as a whole;
  • Alert appropriate staff to problems experienced by students and make recommendations as to how these may be resolved.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, liaising with other staff as appropriate.
Other responsibilities:
  • Cover for absent colleagues when necessary.
  • Work effectively in different teams;
  • Assist in whole school marketing initiatives and contribute to the growth of the school.
  • Keep knowledge of wider curriculum developments up to date.
  • Undertake professional development to enhance teaching and learning, identifying the impact and share the outcomes with colleagues.
  • Meet responsibilities with regard to health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant legislation.
  • Contribute positively to the morale and community spirit in the school at all times.
  • Any other appropriate duties as allocated by members of the School's Leadership Team.
PERSON SPECIFICATIONS Qualifications/Training
  • Qualified to bachelor's degree level or above
  • Qualified Teacher Status
Experience / Knowledge
  • Minimum of two years' experience teaching UK National Curriculum at Key Stage 3 and IGCSE
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a similar role
  • Working in partnership with parents
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
