Appointed Board Member - Badminton New Zealand

THE ORGANISATION With the purpose of "Inspiring Kiwis to Love Badminton for Life", Badminton has become one of the fastest growing sports in secondary schools; with currently 11,000 participants it has become the number one racquet sport for rangatahi 13-18 years old. Badminton New Zealand is the national body responsible for the promotion and development of badminton in New Zealand. With a proud nearly 100-year history, Badminton New Zealand was established in 1927 and was a founding member of the International Badminton Federation (now known as Badminton World Federation) which was established in 1934. Badminton New Zealand belongs to the Oceania Confederation alongside Australia and many Pacific Island countries. IDEAL APPLICANTS The Badminton New Zealand Board is seeking to fill a vacancy for an Appointed Board Member. It is assumed all applicants come with a team spirit and strong interpersonal and communication skills. To complement the skillset of existing Board members, the applicant must have:
  1. Proven governance experience with the capability of assuming the Chair role if required.
  2. Formal governance education (IoD, CGI)
  3. Exceptional business and commercial acumen
In addition, two or more of the following attributes would be advantageous:
  1. Experience in commercial growth and/or tapping into funding sources
  2. Legal background
  3. Change Management
  4. Experience with Finance and Audit subcommittees
  5. Some connection to, or affinity with, badminton
Board members are required to commit to approximately 6 to 8 hours per month. This includes attendance at monthly Board meetings, reading time, and participation in subcommittee activities. It is expected the applicant aligns with the purpose and strategic direction of the organization, as well as exhibit a willingness to work strategically and collaboratively to grow the strengths of the Board, the organization, and its key stakeholders. Term: 1-3 years (Maximum term 3 x 3-year terms). Remuneration: Unpaid. Time commitment: 11 meetings per year, two of these are face-to-face.
