Fixed term or secondment opportunity until 30 June 2025 – based on Stewart Island/Rakiura. This role is focused on the planning, monitoring, and reporting of our district's biodiversity work programmes. You will:
- Support the Operations Manager by leading the delivery, monitoring and reporting of high-priority, complex tasks.
- Manage the biodiversity budget and participate in planning.
- Scope mahi for the team to ensure the integrated delivery of top-priority outcomes for the region and facilitate monthly work schedules.
- Collaborate with iwi, hapū, and local partners, ensuring alignment with mana whenua, strategic objectives and local priorities.
- Provide technical advice on district biodiversity management.
- Experience in biodiversity or environmental management.
- Ability to identify risks and opportunities and prioritise when resources are constrained.
- High standard of written and verbal communication, with a clear and engaging communication style with strong relationship-building and collaboration skills.
- Experience in project management, budgeting, and financial planning.
- Critical thinking and analysis skills, with the ability to translate strategy into workable operational plans.
- Strong commitment to safety and wellbeing in the workplace.
- Attention to detail with strong computer and data management skills.
- A current full New Zealand driver's licence.
- BSc and/or MSc in Biology/ Ecology or a related field.
- A current first aid certificate.
- Backcountry experience, working/traveling alone off-track in mountainous and forested terrain.
