Responsible for identifying new site opportunities for future stores, development and design of new stores, management, maintenance and refurbishment of existing stores, plus seismic remediation, refrigeration upgrades, energy efficiency and maintenance, the Foodies Property team are focussed on supporting members and the co-op to deliver for our customers every day. Te Tūranga – About the role As a Senior Development Manager, you’ll be leading our Property Development team, who are key to our long-term success and our ability to identify developments that align with our hefty goals as one of NZ’s largest grocery retailers. You’ll also:
- Strategically manage and grow a substantial portfolio through identifying, evaluating and developing properties and sites that align with our long-term vision and strategy.
- Identify locations suitable for a particular brand function, carry out the feasibility studies and conduct the negotiation process for property acquisitions.
- Assist the Head of Property to provide sufficient information to the CEO and/or the Board to decide with confidence on land acquisition proposals.
- Carry out the due diligence process (including liaising with the design team and external consultants) to ensure the site can support the proposed store.
- Keep up-to-date with all changes, resource consent issues, environment court decisions, new acts, amendments and bills.
- Participate in submissions and hearings, including preparing applications, coordinating specialist property consultants, evaluating decisions and any conditions upon the decision and engaging the appeal process where required.
- Build and maintain working relationships with local authorities by liaising with local politicians and council officers, city and district mayors, directors, quasi-political organisations and resource management personnel.

- Strong statutory and legislative understanding.
- Experience with project management tools and financial modelling.
- Strong negotiation skills – with the ability to create win-win situations.
- Problem solving and analytical ability.
- The ability to effectively prioritise, pay close attention to detail & be able to reorganise priorities to meet urgent deadlines.
- The ability to establish and develop strong, effective relationships and identify key people who should be involved in evaluating solutions to the problem.
