Job Summary: The Head of Internal Auditor plays a critical role in ensuring effective internal controls, risk management, and compliance within a digital bank. They oversee the bank's internal audit function, providing independent assessments of operations, and work closely with senior management and the board of directors to identify risks, improve processes, and enhance governance. They support management in implementing strategic plans, operational policies, and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance and assisting in the discharge of governance responsibilities. Job Role / Major Responsibilities: The following are the key responsibilities for the role: Internal Audit Strategy:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive internal audit strategy that aligns with the digital bank's goals and objectives.
- Define the scope, methodology, and frequency of internal audits to assess the bank's compliance, operational efficiency, and risk management practices.
- Manage and supervise audit teams for implementing the annual audit plan, reviewing and finalizing internal audit reports, and reporting issues related to control, risk, and governance to the Board Audit Committee (BAC) and the President.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify and prioritize key risks faced by the bank.
- Develop risk management strategies and collaborate with business units to implement effective controls and mitigation plans.
- Develop an annual audit plan based on risk assessments and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and execute internal audit projects, including planning, fieldwork, and reporting.
- Review and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, risk management processes, and compliance practices.
- Ensure the bank's compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Stay abreast of regulatory changes and evolving risks in the digital banking industry.
- Advise management on emerging risks and provide recommendations for enhancing the bank's compliance framework.
- Assess the effectiveness of the bank's corporate governance framework, including board oversight, internal policies, and procedures.
- Identify control gaps and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure the bank's adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Interact and collaborate with senior management, the board of directors, and external stakeholders, including regulators and auditors.
- Provide regular updates on audit findings, recommendations, and the overall effectiveness of internal controls.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders to foster a culture of transparency and continuous improvement.
- Lead and manage the internal audit team, providing guidance, coaching, and development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of excellence, professionalism, and continuous learning within the team.
- Prepare comprehensive and accurate audit reports detailing findings, recommendations, and management action plans.
- Monitor and follow up on the implementation of audit recommendations to ensure timely closure.
- Lead and manage people effectively.
- Be a strong team player able to work effectively with diverse client groups to ensure audit activity is conducted in a professional manner, adding value and improving internal controls.
- Be confident and courageous to raise concerns and issues with senior managers in a proactive and professional manner.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Professional certifications such as CIA (Certified Internal Auditor) or CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor) are highly desirable.
- Professional qualifications such as CA / ACCA or MBA / Masters, additionally having certifications such as CIA / CFE / CICA / CISA.
- Demonstrated expertise in assessing risks, developing risk management strategies, and implementing effective controls.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong understanding of digital banking operations, including information security, technology infrastructure, and emerging risks.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex issues to non-technical stakeholders and influence decision-making.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- High ethical standards, integrity, and attention to detail.
- Auditing experience of a digital-only operation.
- Understanding the nature of unique issues pertaining to digital banking.
- Extensive experience in internal auditing, risk management, or compliance, preferably within the banking or financial services industry.
- Experience in a digital banking environment is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of internal audit methodologies, risk assessment, and control frameworks.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations, including banking laws, anti-money laundering (AML), and data privacy requirements.
