We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy. We are now recruiting for a C&I Manager to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station.
What we’re looking for
As the C&I Manager , you will provide technical expertise across the lifecycle of C&I Systems for the SMR nuclear power plant. This covers the delivery of the complete design of the Control and Instrumentation systems, spanning system architecture, sub-system design and equipment specification and design/selection to realise the final verified design of the power station. You will do this by working closely with the engineering teams from across the power station and applying a structured systems engineering approach to design.- Support the Senior Manager - Process C&I & Data Processing and Control Systems, in delivery of the agreed programme of work.
- Accountable for delivery of the Process C&I & Data Processing and Control Systems team’s scope of work.
- Working with Process and Mechanical plant systems Engineers to translate high level requirements into a specification for Control and Instrumentation (C&I) systems.
- Liaise with other disciplines to understand functional performance capabilities of components and systems to facilitate effective system design.
- Assess and substantiate that the design specification meets the requirements.
- Ensuring compliance against international standards in particular, IEC 61513, IEC61226 and IEC61508.
- Produce verification and validation plans and define test plans to demonstrate that the C&I system requirements have been satisfied.

In particular, expertise in one and more subdisciplines i.e. control systems, protection systems and/or instrumentation is required for the role. This together with a good understanding of the principles of designing systems to be functionally resilient to faults (such as redundancy and diversity) would be beneficial. Adherence to Industry Standards Knowledge and experience of relevant industry standards for systems important to safety (e.g. IEC 61508, IEC 61226, IEC 61513). Knowledge, understanding and practical experience of applying relevant regulations to a wide range of C&I systems. Application of Advanced System Methodologies Knowledge and experience of applying systems engineering methodologies including Model Based Systems Engineering to C&I systems. Effective Stakeholder Communication Experience in taking information, understanding, and presenting it in an appropriate and compelling format, which includes formal communications to the appropriate stakeholders, including regulatory bodies. Technical Oversight Proficiency Proven track record of providing technical leadership in C&I discipline with an ability to provide technical oversight of the work carried out by others i.e. discharging the intelligent customer role.Training & Qualification Requirements
