BROTHERS OF CHARITY SERVICES IRELAND – SOUTHERN REGION The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland – Southern Region is a major voluntary organisation, which provides age related residential, educational and day services for people with intellectual disabilities, autism and communication disorders throughout the Cork and Kerry area. Applications are invited for the following post HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER Ref: 05/2025 Permanent Full-Time (35 hours per week) Southern Region – Cork/Kerry (based in Cork) The Role The post holder’s primary role is that of a Safety Officer for the Region and will be required to lead and co-ordinate the Health & Safety function and promote a continuous improvement culture in relation to all health, safety and environmental work practices in the services. The post holder will be part of a team and as the services grow and develop to work with an expanded team to jointly deliver on the safety function as required by the Services. The Officer will be required to take an active part in ensuring that the day-to-day operations of the Department and their interactions with service areas reflect the ethos and vision of the Brothers of Charity Services. The person appointed should have the ability to participate proactively as a member of a team and contribute positively to the ongoing development of effective teamwork. The Candidate
- Qualification / Skills / Experience
- Each candidate for the appointment must possess:
- A relevant third level qualification at level 7 or above on the Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI) frameworkin Occupational Health and Safety
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role
- Excellent leadership, organizational, motivational and communication skills
- Knowledge of all relevant Health & Safety legislation
- Strong IT skills, particularly Excel and Word, and be proficient in report writing.
- Driving
- The person appointed will be required to provide their own transport during the duration of employment and must furnish indemnity from insurers in favour of the employer. Travel expenses will be paid at the appropriate rates in respect of travel necessarily performed in the discharge or his/her duties. The base for this purpose will be the location to which the appointee is assigned.
- Duties
- The general duties of the appointment are as described in the attached Job Description.
- Health
- Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service
- Character
- Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
- A shortlist of candidates to attend before the Selection Board will be prepared by the Selection Board from an examination of application forms/CVs furnished by the candidates. Shortlisting of candidates is on the basis of the information contained in their application form & CV
- The Line Manager will notify the successful candidate of the mandatory/compulsory courses/training which employees are obliged to attend. Mandatory training, for example, manual handling, health and safety courses etc., form part of the conditions of employment along with the Organisation’s statutory obligation.
