Feb 2, 2025, 8:59:00 PM About the role As the Specialist Doctor – Passenger Clearance, you will provide specialist aviation medicine advice and clinical services to support Qatar Airways staff and the broader functions of the aeromedical centre with a main focus on passenger fitness to fly, passenger health, travel health and managing emerging health threats to the operation. You will also play an integral role in developing a world-class Aviation Medical Centre for the airline. Actively engage in research and audit around the aeromedical function as well as mentor and support company doctors and nurses assigned to the aeromedical centre and passenger clearance unit. Accountabilities- Provide medical support and advice to the business regarding passenger health issues, such as fitness to fly/health onboard/gate screening.
- Certify the fitness to fly of passengers when required.
- Provide medical consultations and regulatory advice to passengers and airline employees.
- Oversee the performance and practice of company doctors and nurses assigned to the Passenger area and supervise their practice as necessary.
- Responsible for development of the Policy and Procedures needed to run an efficient and cost-effective Aeromedical Health Service.
- Support the VP – Aeromedical Centre and Specialist Occupational Health doctor in the strategic delivery of health educational programs for the company as a whole.
- Support the VP – Aeromedical Services in providing accurate, timely and evidence-based aviation medicine advice to both staff and the airline management.
- Play a role in the development and expansion of the aeromedical services to support QR operations with a focus on supporting passenger care and medical clearance.
- Establish reviews of aviation medicine related cases to enhance productivity, drive down absenteeism and support employee retention.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest scientific research within the aviation medicine arena, and engage with the assigned external medical community to monitor developments and ensure that the Qatar Airways Medical Centre employs international best practice in all areas.
- Support the VP-Aeromedical Centre in the maintenance and update of the Aviation Medicine knowledge, expertise and training across the department for all clinical staff.
- Assists the VP in ensuring that the aeromedical services remain compliant with regulatory standards from various regulators, e.g. EASA/FAA/QCAA.
- Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department.
- Minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
- Primary Medical Degree from an accredited university.
- Must be an accredited specialist in Aviation/Aerospace Medicine or other Speciality with a recognized qualification in Aviation Medicine (Diploma, Masters, or above).
- Class 1 Aviation Medical Examiner with an ICAO contracting state for at least 5 years.
- Experience in passenger health and fitness to fly assessment.
- Experience in a commercial aviation setting, aeromedical retrieval, or medical insurance is preferable but not essential.
- Command of English language.
