Network and Data Centre Engineer

Network and Data Centre Engineer - £440 per day via Umbrella – 6-month contracts – Southampton hybrid - SCC Flex Contract We are seeking an experienced Network and Data Centre Engineer to join our client’s team on a contract basis. This hands-on role requires expertise in hardware installation, structured cabling, and general IT infrastructure support. Your responsibilities as the Network and Data Centre Engineer:

• Install and configure servers, storage devices, and network equipment in racks.
• Connect servers to Raritan KVM switches and manage other KVM switch types.
• Perform decommissioning of outdated equipment.
• Install, clean, and replace Ethernet (CAT6) and fibre optic cabling.
• Manage structured cabling layouts in Fiber Distribution Centres (FDCs) and Storage Area Networks (SANs).
• Diagnose and replace hardware components, including drives, PSUs, CPUs, and other customer-replaceable parts.
• Address tape drive faults and perform replacements.
• Conduct regular hardware inspections to identify and resolve potential issues.
• Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and decommissions.

As a successful Network and Data Centre Engineer, you will have:

• Proven experience in data centre or IT infrastructure roles.
• Hands-on expertise with structured cabling (Ethernet and fibre optic) and KVM switches.
• Strong understanding of data centre hardware, including servers, storage, and networking equipment.
• Familiarity with troubleshooting techniques and hardware replacements.
• Knowledge of structured cabling principles within data centre environments (FDC/SAN).
