Closing Date: 26 January 2025 23:59 CET/CESTDirectorate: Technology, Engineering and QualityHead of the Future Engineering DivisionReporting to the Head of the Systems Department, as Head of the Future Engineering Division, you will play a vital role in driving innovation and fostering collaboration across the domains of artificial intelligence, advanced simulation, sustainability engineering, and digital transformation.In this leadership role, you will oversee the Agency's centre of excellence for cutting-edge technologies, guiding multidisciplinary teams as they shape the future of space missions and their downstream applications. You will lead advancements in AI and data science to devise technical solutions in clean and sustainable space initiatives, tackling complex challenges in modern space engineering. You will be responsible for delivering technical expertise and operational excellence while cultivating a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.Finally, you will manage the Division, its resources, and its activities, being accountable for the outcome of operational activities conducted within the Division's technical domain.ResponsibilitiesMore specifically, under the direct authority of the Head of the Systems Department, you will be responsible for:Leading the Agency centre of excellence for artificial intelligence and data science technologies for space applications;Leading the Agency centre of excellence for modelling and advanced simulation methods and software applications;Supporting pre-Phase A mission and system design studies, including concurrent engineering and model-based systems engineering approaches;Providing cost estimates and cost engineering analysis in support of projects;Supporting projects with the centre of competence in sustainable engineering;Establishing and maintaining quality, engineering, management, sustainability, and interoperability standards.DutiesYour tasks and responsibilities will include:Expert support to Agency projects and programmes;Development and assessment of relevant future engineering technologies, methods, and tools;Modelling and simulation of space missions;Research and development of methods and tools in support of digital engineering;Managing ECSS standardisation and its evolution;Managing relevant laboratory facilities;Representing the Agency in your area(s) of expertise;Coordinating dissemination of the Division's results;Defining, promoting, and implementing the Division's contributions to ESA's technology programmes;Liaising with relevant technology expert groups.Managerial ResponsibilitiesAt the managerial level, your tasks will include:Establishing the multi-year plan of activities for the Division;Accountability for all activities and resources delegated to the Division;Maintaining state-of-the-art expertise;Driving the development of people within your area of responsibility;Supporting teamwork and the exchange of experience;Ensuring a positive and motivating working environment;Communicating ESA values and ensuring compliance with all ESA policies.QualificationsA master's degree in computer engineering, space system engineering, physics, or another relevant subject is required for this post.Additional RequirementsStrong experience in modern engineering methods;Proven experience of leading and motivating a team of experts;The ability to provide strategic direction and relate team objectives to overall organizational goals;Excellent leadership and communication skills;Ability to solve complex issues and make timely decisions.People management experience is required; international experience is an asset.Diversity, Equity and InclusivenessESA is an equal opportunity employer, committed to achieving diversity within the workforce and creating an inclusive working environment.
