Job Overview: This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Project Engineer to take the lead on thermal projects within an EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management) environment. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing small to medium-sized projects, driving them from concept to completion. The individual should be a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with 5-8+ years of relevant experience, bringing expertise in mechanical equipment and process systems, particularly within SAGD Central Processing Facilities (CPF). This role offers a chance to showcase leadership by coordinating multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior engineers while delivering innovative and impactful project outcomes. Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the Project Engineer on assigned projects or feasibility studies for pipeline and facility projects in the thermal energy sector.
  • Maintain direct client contact and scope projects according to client requests.
  • Assign tasks to the project team and coordinate activities across various disciplines, both within and outside the organisation.
  • Oversee the initiation and performance of complex engineering tasks, including detailed calculations.
  • Develop the Project Charter, Project Design Basis Memorandum, execution plan, budgets, and schedules for small to medium-sized projects.
  • Prepare basic design documents required by design engineering disciplines and equipment engineers.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering control documents aligned with the master project schedule.
  • Draft engineering specifications for equipment with input from other engineers and designers.
  • Review, check, and approve detailed engineering drawings and deliverables.
  • Ensure engineering quality control aligns with company and client standards.
  • Produce timely project reports, both internal and external, including scheduling, cost control, and progress updates.
  • Liaise with clients for project updates, including field interface during construction, as required by the project scope.
  • Manage procurement and quality control for materials and services (e.G., compressor inspections).
  • Oversee general project management to meet cost, schedule, safety, and quality targets.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining company policies and engineering standards.
  • Contribute to manpower planning through regular project review meetings.
  • Take necessary actions to ensure the successful and timely completion of assigned projects.
Core Competencies:
  • Expertise in designing and optimising thermal systems such as heat exchangers, boilers, and cooling towers.
  • Proficient in heat transfer principles, including conduction, convection, and radiation, and their application in equipment design.
  • Skilled in performing thermodynamic calculations for compressors, turbines, and distillation columns.
  • Proficiency with software tools such as Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, and HTRI (Heat Transfer Research, Inc.) for process and thermal analysis.
  • Ability to identify and implement process efficiency and energy conservation improvements in oil and gas facilities.
Education & Experience:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a recognised institution.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Licensed Engineer (P.L.Eng.) with APEGA is required.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Salary: CAD $120,000 – $150,000+ annually.
