Assistant Underwriter

Job Description

• Assist in evaluating new business and renewal submissions, including gathering and analyzing relevant data.
• Support the preparation of underwriting recommendations and proposals for decision-making.
• Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, company policies, and treaty." 
• Review survey reports and other risk documentation to assess exposures and recommend risk improvements.
• Assist in calculating adequate premiums by analyzing property characteristics, loss history, and risk mitigation measures."                                                                                                                                           
• Prepare policy documents, endorsements, and quotations as directed.
• Monitor and ensure accurate and timely issuance of insurance policies and endorsements."                                                                                                                                                       
• Maintain and update underwriting records, databases, and files.
• Analyze portfolio performance and provide insights on trends and areas of improvement."                                                                                                                                                        
• Communicate with brokers and clients to clarify risk details, gather required documentation, and answer general inquiries.
• Support the resolution of underwriting issues or discrepancies in collaboration with the team."                                                                                                                                                                      
• Participate in training sessions and workshops to build underwriting and risk assessment skills.
• Stay updated on market trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in property insurance."                                                                                                                                                              
• Work closely with the senior underwriters to handle complex cases.
• Coordinate with other departments, such as claims, risk engineering, and reinsurance, as needed."                                                                                                                                                                  
• Assist in reviewing and following up on risk improvement recommendations for insured properties.
• Collaborate with risk engineers to ensure compliance with underwriting standards and guidelines."                                                                                                                                                              
• Assist in ensuring adherence to treaty capacity and compliance with reinsurance guidelines.
• Liaise with reinsurers for facultative support, as needed."                                                                                                                                                                      
• Prepare and submit periodic reports on underwriting activities and performance metrics."

Job Requirements

• Internship or 1–2 years in insurance underwriting or a related field is preferred.    
• Bachelor’s degree in insurance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field.
