Band 7 Infectious Diseases and Haemoglobinopathies Specialist Midwife An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic midwife to join our Antenatal and Newborn Screening team. We are looking for a Specialist Midwife for Infectious Diseases and Haemoglobinopathies, to job share with the current Specialist Midwife at the Barnet hospital site. Applicants should have an interest or background in Antenatal and Newborn Screening. They must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in counselling pregnant individuals with complex conditions relating to infectious diseases (HIV, Hepatitis B, syphilis), or haemoglobinopathies is desirable. Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the Antenatal and Newborn Screening team, and be responsible for: - Coordinating care and delivering genetic counselling for women who are carriers of Sickle Cell, Thalassemia and other Haemoglobinopathies. Experience working in this specialist area is desirable.
- Coordinating the care of women who screen positive for vertically transmissible infectious diseases routinely screened for within the infectious diseases in pregnancy screening programme (IDPS): HIV, Syphilis, and Hepatitis B. Experience working in this specialist area is desirable.
- Participating in failsafe checks to ensure screening has been completed for all eligible women (and partners where relevant) who have consented to screening. Excellent organisation skills are essential.
- Completing failsafe checks to ensure that all IDPS and Haemoglobinopathy screen positive results have been communicated to patients and that referral and required follow up has been completed within nationally agreed timeframes.
The post holder will also be required to provide cross cover for the Fetal Medicine Specialist Midwife and Screening Coordinator in their absence. About us
We have Antenatal and Newborn Screening teams based at Barnet and Royal Free Hampstead to cover pregnant clients booked for maternity care at the Royal Free London trust. They are comprised of specialist midwives, screening coordinators, and a cross site failsafe officer. The cross site service is overseen by the clinical leads for Antenatal and Newborn Screening and Fetal Medicine. Job responsibilities

Education & professional Qualifications
- Registered Midwife with current NMC registration
- First Degree or working towards in relevant subject
Experience
- Post registration experience in all aspects of Midwifery Care
- Evidence of clinical competence
- Experience of counselling
- Evidence of teaching and developing junior staff
- Experience in infectious diseases service
- Experience in developing and implementing guidelines
- Experience of data collection and analysis
Skills and aptitudes
- Good leadership skills
- Good counselling and listening skills
- Ability to work under pressure and on own initiative
- Understanding of current issues in antenatal and new-born screening e.g. Failsafe systems, national standards
- Understanding and knowledge of key performance indicators in screening
- Demonstrates skills in IT systems and use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Sensitive to the diverse needs of women
