Job Description: Data Center MEP Implementation Expert Position: Data Center MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Implementation Expert Location: Jaipur Department: Engineering / Data Center Projects Reports to: Practice lead – Projects Employment Type: Full-Time Position: Data Center MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) Implementation Expert Location: [Insert Location] Department: Engineering / Data Center Operations Reports to: Head of Engineering / Director of Data Center Operations Employment Type: Full-Time Overview: We are seeking an experienced Data Center MEP Implementation Expert with a proven track record in the design, installation, and commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems for hyperscale and mission-critical data centers. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in MEP systems, with a focus on the integration of these systems to ensure operational reliability, energy efficiency, and compliance with safety standards. You will work closely with project management, construction teams, and vendors to oversee the successful implementation of MEP systems throughout the entire lifecycle of data center projects. Key Responsibilities:
- MEP Systems Implementation Leadership:
- Lead the implementation of MEP systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, etc.) for hyperscale data centers, ensuring that designs are executed in compliance with all standards and specifications.
- Oversee the coordination and integration of all MEP systems, ensuring their seamless operation and minimal downtime.
- Provide technical expertise in the installation, testing, and commissioning of MEP systems during data center construction and retrofit projects.
- Design Review and Value Engineering:
- Review MEP designs to ensure they are practical, cost-effective, and scalable for the needs of hyperscale data centers.
- Propose value engineering solutions to optimize design implementation, energy efficiency, and operational reliability.
- Work with the design team to resolve any conflicts or design issues related to MEP systems during the construction phase.
- Project Management and Coordination:
- Manage the scheduling and execution of all MEP-related tasks during the project lifecycle, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
- Act as the primary point of contact for MEP-related queries, providing direction to project managers, contractors, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate with construction teams to ensure proper installation practices, adherence to project timelines, and resolution of issues that arise during construction.
- Commissioning and System Testing:
- Lead the commissioning process for MEP systems, ensuring that all systems are tested, calibrated, and functioning as intended.
- Oversee the performance testing of HVAC, electrical, fire suppression, and plumbing systems to ensure they meet operational and safety requirements.
- Validate that all systems are fully integrated and optimized for operational efficiency and compliance with local and international standards.
- Risk Mitigation and Safety:
- Identify and mitigate risks related to MEP system installation, ensuring that safety and quality control measures are in place throughout the implementation process.
- Ensure that all MEP systems are designed and implemented with a focus on operational continuity, redundancy, and disaster recovery.
- Vendor and Contractor Management:
- Manage and coordinate with vendors and contractors involved in the installation of MEP systems, ensuring they adhere to project specifications, timelines, and quality standards.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with suppliers and subcontractors to procure the necessary materials and services.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, NEC, etc.) during installation.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain up-to-date records of all MEP-related activities, including design changes, installation progress, commissioning reports, and system testing results.
- Prepare detailed documentation for operational handover, including as-built drawings, manuals, and maintenance instructions for all installed MEP systems.
- Provide regular progress updates and reports to senior management and key stakeholders on the status of MEP implementation.
- Operational Support and Troubleshooting:
- Provide support during the operational phase, troubleshooting any MEP system issues that arise post-implementation.
- Work with the operations team to ensure that MEP systems are properly maintained and continue to operate efficiently after the data center is operational.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the implementation of MEP systems for large-scale, with minimum 1 year of experience in hyperscale data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
- Proven experience managing the full lifecycle of MEP systems from design through installation and commissioning in data centers.
- Deep understanding of data center mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems, including HVAC systems, power distribution, backup power systems, cooling solutions, fire suppression, and life-safety systems.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Expertise in the integration and commissioning of complex MEP systems in high-density data center environments.
- Strong project management skills, with experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple contractors.
- Proficiency in relevant MEP design and implementation software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, etc.).
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant safety codes, industry standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, NEC, etc.), and regulations governing MEP systems in data centers.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, particularly with MEP systems in critical environments.
- Ability to manage complex projects, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.
- Certifications in project management (e.g., PMP), MEP systems (e.g., LEED AP), or other relevant areas.
- Experience with automation and smart building technologies to optimize MEP system performance.
- Familiarity with energy-efficient MEP solutions and sustainability best practices.
