R&D Chemist - Paint and Coating

Position Title : R&D Chemist – Paint and Coatings Location : Al Ain Department : Research and Development Job Summary : We are seeking an innovative and detail-oriented R&D Chemist to join our team in the paint and coatings division. The ideal candidate will focus on the development and optimization of paint formulations, ensuring the performance, safety, and compliance of our products. This role involves conducting research, testing new materials, and working closely with production and quality teams to bring new products to market. Key Responsibilities : Formulation Development :

• Develop new paint and coating formulations to meet customer and market requirements.
• Optimize existing formulations for performance, cost, and compliance.

• Conduct laboratory testing on paint properties, including viscosity, adhesion, drying time, durability, gloss, and resistance to environmental factors.
• Analyze test data and document results in technical reports.

• Evaluate raw materials such as pigments, resins, solvents, and additives for suitability in formulations.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies and innovative materials in the coatings industry.

• Investigate product issues and recommend solutions to improve performance.
• Support manufacturing teams in scaling up formulations and resolving production challenges.

• Ensure all formulations meet regulatory and environmental standards (e.g., VOC limits, REACH, TSCA).
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations.
• Work with cross-functional teams, including production, quality control, and marketing, to ensure product success.
• Provide technical support to sales teams and respond to customer inquiries.

• Education : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field.
• Experience : 2–5 years of experience in paint or coatings R&D (entry-level candidates with relevant academic experience may be considered). Experience with formulation, testing, and troubleshooting in the paint industry.
• Skills : Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Knowledge of low-VOC and water-based paint technologies.
• Experience with software for formulation and testing.
• Familiarity with ISO and ASTM standards for paints.
