OMNI Television, Canada’s only multilingual and multicultural television station is seeking a Full-time temporary Reporter to join our Chinese news team in Vancouver. The successful candidate will support the team in sourcing, chasing, reporting, developing, and presenting compelling news stories for both national and regional broadcasts. What you'll be doing...
- Generate fresh, compelling and original story ideas
- Respond to breaking news quickly and accurately
- Edit, chase, report, and voice stories for the newscast
- Work under tight deadlines to file news stories
- Interview experts, guests, and sources within the community
- Translate and repackage stories as required
- Participate in editorial meetings
- Back up anchoring as required
- Other duties as required
- Proven experience in journalism and media
- Ability to work in a dynamic group environment
- Must be fluent in Mandarin and/or Cantonese, oral and written
- Knowledge of the cultural and political landscape in BC
- Experience writing, producing and/or reporting broadcast news content
- Field experience an asset
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks and deliver under tight deadlines
- Superior communication, writing, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
- Proficient computer skills, including knowledge of newsroom computer software
- Degree or diploma in journalism or broadcasting (or equivalent experience)
- A team-focused attitude
