We are seeking an experienced therapeutic counsellor with experience working directly with children, to join our Children's Counselling team! The salary for this role is a SCHADS Level 6 ($106,912.96 to $111,630.32 pro rata) plus superannuation and $15,990 salary packaging. GenWest is the leading family violence organisation in West Naarm (Melbourne's West). We are currently seeking a part-time Children's Counsellor (4 days per week) to join our team of dedicated, and experienced children's counsellors, who offer support and counselling to children experiencing family violence in Melbourne’s west. You will come from a therapeutic counselling background, involving extensive knowledge and application of child development theory, trauma-informed/responsive therapeutic practice and attachment theory. You will be comfortable and secure working with children in high risk settings, and can effectively manage and protect your own well-being, as well as the welfare of your clients. Along with the rest of the Children's Counselling team, you will be located at GenWest's Maribyrnong office with the expectation of being located in the Wyndham or Melton region for one day per week. This role is an onsite role, involving travel when required. Within this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Undertaking assessments of children and their families to determine therapeutic needs.
  • Undertaking ongoing family violence risk assessments of children and their families.
  • Providing child focused therapeutic counselling interventions to children (ages 0-17), including using creative modalities such as Art, Music or Play Therapy (occasionally providing outreach at schools when required).
  • Providing tailored group and/or child centred single session work and trauma-informed counselling interventions.
  • Providing support and information to parents/caregivers regarding strategies for effective parenting specific to the needs of the child.
