Support Innovation. Protect Ideas. Build Your Future. Join Fonterra's IP Asset Strategy team as our IP Portfolio Advisor and play a key role in supporting our efforts to safeguard and leverage innovation. This is a great opportunity to be part of a collaborative team while building expertise in IP management and protection. Your key accountabilities include:- Work alongside innovators to identify and assess potential new IP for protection, ensuring it’s captured and managed effectively throughout its lifecycle.
- Support the team in monitoring third-party IP activity, conducting patentability searches, and assisting with oppositions or pre-grant challenges.
- Contribute to initiatives that enhance Fonterra’s IP portfolio management practices, generating insights and reports on third-party IP activity.
- Assist in the development of IP strategies for categories and products, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Provide operational support for IP co-development projects, including due diligence activities and IP release processes.
Skills & Qualities that will help you succeed:
- Progress towards becoming a registered patent attorney (minimum one year of exams completed).
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant scientific discipline such as dairy science, food science, biotechnology, or chemistry.
- A curious, growth-oriented mindset and a passion for learning about intellectual property management.
- Strong technical skills, with the ability to understand the science behind Fonterra’s innovations.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to simplify complex IP topics for stakeholders.
- A collaborative approach, with a focus on trust, adaptability, and supporting team efforts.
