Te whai w hitanga | The opportunity Based in Poneke | Wellington, the Finance, Property and Procurement Directorate has six key functions providing high level, specialised advice and support across Te Puni Kokiri. The Principal Advisor supports this mahi through
- Providing strategic, accurate advice and support to the General Manager, Finance, Property and Procurement as his trusted "right-hand" kaimahi
- Contributing towards reporting for our Executive Leadership Team and providing advice and making recommendations to Deputy Secretaries, and Ministers as required
- Coaching and mentoring other kaimahi to increase their knowledge and grow their skill set
- Leading and managing projects, including risk analysis and reporting requirements
- Providing timely support for Official Information Act, Parliamentary Questions and other requests for information when required.
- Understanding of and proven experience with the machinery of government, public sector processes and reporting requirements
- Leading budget and procurement processes, advising executive leadership and supporting a Chief Financial Officer, General Manager Finance or similar.
- Project management experience, including planning and methodologies
- Have a broad understanding of key legislation as it relates to policy advice and decision making, and knowledge of the key legislation mentioned in the position description
- Possess the initiative, desire to succeed and continually learn, and clear, succinct communication, influencing and persuasion skills required of the position
- Strong relationship skills, including stakeholder engagement and management
- Are comfortable in an ao Māori environment and are comfortable in situations where tikanga is observed - A level of competency in te reo Māori, or a willingness to learn.
