A. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

  • As Manager of Engineering, responsible for Civil, Instrumentation, Mechanical (FEG & MEG), Electrical, Piping Design, Piping Stress and other Engineering Groups.
  • Ensures that Company policies and directives are implemented and that competent personnel are assigned to carry out duties. Overviews work progress and work-hours usage to ensure that correct level of productivity is maintained and that all work carried out within the Department is completed within the allocated budget and program. Responsible for recruitment of staff, training and development, departmental administration and line personnel management with the support of department managers.
B. MAIN DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Quality Policy, Core Values and Objectives Provide evidence of commitment to the development and implementation of our Quality Management System and Core Values and to continually improve the effectiveness of operation. The main objectives to be achieved are:

2. Departmental Plan
  • Establish and maintain Department's procedures, technical guides and manuals through discipline Department Manager's to control the Department's work activities, ensuring that all staff have access to this documentation and comply with its requirements.
  • Ensure that work carried out by Department is professional and adequate in all respects, particularly in relation to safety, quality and adherence to Company's contractual responsibilties and compliance with statutory and legal requirements.
  • Identify, evaluate and record actual and potential quality problems within the Department or at the interface with other Departments.
  • Formulate Performance Advancement Plan and implement.
  • Ensure that Company Policies are properly adhered to within his area of responsibility.
  • Delegate authority and responsibility within the Department to all concerned with the implementation and verification of the quality related activities.
  • Ensure maximum utilization of Computer Aided Design so as to achieve economy of operations.
  • Ensure that relationship with other Departments within the Company and with vendors and subcontractors are effective and cordial.
3. Staffing / Human Resources
  • Ensure that the Department is managed by capable, qualified and experienced staff.
  • Ensure people produce excellent work and continually improve their skills and grow the Company.
  • Evaluate competence of staff for current roles and assess potential for increased responsibility or alternate job role. Recommend appropriate training depending upon this evaluation.
  • Ensure that staff has a safe and comfortable work environment to perform in a most productive and efficient manner.
  • Review current and future staffing needs and make recommendations regarding staff recruitments. Ensure required sub-contracting to qualified and experienced sub-contractors.
  • Interview candidates as appropriate and make recommendations for the appointment/rejection of the candidate to the Manager of Human Resources.
  • Ensure staff recruitment is monitored and implemented to enable optimum loading of staff in the design group to support the business.
  • Carry out regular staff assessment and appraisal, formally record the results and give recommendations in accordance with Company's policies.
  • Authorize and approve all expenses as stipulated in Company directives.
4. Budget / Planning
  • Control the activities of his Department to comply with Company's budget requirements.
  • Ensure work is completed as per planned schedule and within the budgeted work hours.
5. Measurement and Performance
  • Ensure through frequent personal reviews and Department Meetings that various projects being executed by the Company are progressing in accordance with cost, time, quality and technical specifications agreed with client.
  • Review utilization factors and productivity. Increase productivity. Identify focal areas and draw up Performance Advancement Plan; formulate methods to measure the same.
6. Business Development
  • Respond adequately to the Company's Sales requirements. Approve all design and project work-hours estimates for Proposals/Projects before submission to the Sales, whenever required.
7. Client Liaison
  • Ours is a relationship-based company. Maintain long-term and smooth relationship with clients by providing higher value and lower total cost to them through performance excellence. Emphasis is on an ever-increasing group of core clients.
8.Specific Responsibilities
  • To ensure following:
- Discipline, operation & efficiency in the department. - Adherence to Department / Discipline Work Instructions. - Allocation of proper personnel to projects and proposals. - Overview of work progress and work hour usage. C. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS Education - A degree in Engineering Discipline for Manager of Engineering. Experience - 24 years of experience of which about 7 years are in similar management experience.
  • Overall control / supervision, staffing and responsibility (technical and administration) for Engineering Groups.
  • Preparing work hour estimates for proposals (where / as applicable)
  • Preparation / making cost estimates.
