Director, Construction QuantumJob Description:THE COMPANYSecretariat is your source for independent expert advisory services. Secretariat specializes in international arbitration, general commercial arbitration/litigation, forensic accounting, economic damages, construction, and government contracting. Secretariat's experts maintain integrity, quality, and objectivity when solving complex disputes, delivering detailed analyses, and articulating meaningful results in a clear and concise manner.Secretariat partners with general contractors, owners, developers, engineers, and their legal counsel to guide them through litigation/arbitration proceedings related to construction disputes. Our experts have testified across the globe on many of the largest construction delay and economic damages matters. Our dispute services include: forensic scheduling, project cost/quantum analytics, and liability reviews. Due to continued growth, we are seeking professionals with planning/cost analytics/scheduling experience and a broad understanding of construction and engineering concepts to join our team. Successful candidates should possess experience in construction planning and scheduling as well as strong analytical, problem solving, and communications skills.RESPONSIBILITIESManage the assignment from "cradle to grave" including designing and implementing the investigation plan, allocating and managing the team members, reporting and presenting the investigation findings, and maintaining responsibility for the budget and administrative aspects. Above all, you will be responsible for maintaining the highest quality of client service throughout the assignment.Be the operational client-facing member of the assignment team. This will require the ability to develop and maintain client relationships and manage expectations.Actively participate in business development by identifying potential new clients and business leads, as well as developing your own professional network through attendance at relevant conferences and events.Engage in marketing activities including the drafting of articles, participation in webinars/seminars, and supporting and promoting Secretariat events.Prepare, and present as part of a team, pitches, and commercial/technical proposals for prospective clients.Demonstrate appropriate judgment when considering risks - both to the client and to Secretariat - arising from the assignment. This includes taking responsibility for compliance with internal risk processes and policies throughout the assignment.Coach and develop junior members of the team including providing feedback, both on an ad hoc basis and as part of the appraisal process, and actively supporting their development needs.Research and fact-findingReviewing technical and non-technical documentation (construction schedules, blueprints and technical engineering drawings, reports, correspondence, market data, weather reports, financial data, etc.) to identify key details and metrics used to develop expert reports.Through research, develop keen understanding of all relevant information pertaining to legal disputes regarding large-scale construction projects.Detailed data analysisReview large datasets using multiple analytical methods and tools to identify trends, anomalies, and other details which may have led to cost and schedule overruns.Quantification of cost overruns and damagesApply analytical methods to large datasets to calculate economic damages and cost overruns in large-scale construction projects.Assist in drafting expert reports, converting technical data into a narrative to be submitted to appropriate court venues.Economic modelingAnalyzing financial data and market data to determine lost profits due to schedule delays and cost overruns.ManagementManage facets of small to medium sized engagements, or components of large engagements, including staff supervision, client interaction and relationship building.Develop work plans and assist with marketing and/or proposal development.Business DevelopmentParticipate in new business pursuits.Assist in creation of proposals and client presentations.Case StrategyAssist executives in identifying the best approach to individual litigation/arbitration matters to assist clients in attaining a desired legal decision.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree in building construction, engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred.10 or more years' experience working in a relevant construction project management, scheduling, or cost controls capacity.Strong skills using relevant software tools: MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), any experience with project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera P3/P6, Suretrak preferred.Experience with disputes, including arbitration or litigation required.Experience overseeing and mentoring junior level staff.Excellent written and verbal skills including experience drafting reports for litigation/arbitration (ability to write and conduct business in English).Ability to communicate highly technical material to a non-technical audience.Ability to travel as needed (generally under 25% but may vary).Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as a member of a team.Flexible, creative problem-solving skills.Excellent verbal communication and report writing skills.Additional languages would be beneficial but are not essential.Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Excel and PowerPoint.The desire to join in with, and/or lead, auxiliary tasks associated with a growing practice within a rapidly growing firm.Secretariat is an equal opportunity employer.
