Design and draft mechanical plans: MEP Mechanical Draftsmen use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create mechanical drawings, plans, and schematics. They work closely with engineers and project managers to ensure that the mechanical design meets project specifications and codes.Conduct field visits: MEP Mechanical Draftsmen may conduct field visits to gather information, measurements, and photographs needed to accurately create mechanical plans.Create material lists: They create detailed material lists for mechanical components, including pipes, ducts, fittings, valves, and HVAC equipment.Collaborate with other team members: MEP Mechanical Draftsmen collaborate with other members of the MEP team, including electrical and plumbing draftsmen, engineers, and project managers, to ensure that all systems are properly integrated.Follow safety protocols: They ensure that mechanical plans and components meet safety standards and regulations, and that they comply with local and national codes.Update and revise plans: MEP Mechanical Draftsmen update and revise plans as necessary throughout the project, based on changes in design or construction.Maintain documentation: They maintain accurate records and documentation of all mechanical plans and revisions.Provide technical support: MEP Mechanical Draftsmen provide technical support to construction teams and other professionals involved in the project, as needed.Stay up-to-date with industry standards and trends: They stay up-to-date with industry standards and trends to ensure that mechanical plans and components are current and effective.Qualifications for an MEP Mechanical Draftsman typically include a degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, as well as experience with CAD software and knowledge of mechanical codes and regulations.
