Wā Ora Montessori School is an Area School (Primary and High School 6-18yrs) with an adjoining private Montessori Preschool (3-6yrs). We are located in Lower Hutt, Wellington, which is renowned for being the “Coolest Little Capital in the World”, close to bush walks, beaches, a great cultural scene, and some of the world’s best restaurants, cafes, and coffee. Wā Ora is the only Montessori School in New Zealand that nurtures the child from 0 to 18 years. We are a community-based school with close connections to our whānau (families) and while our setting is urban, it also looks out onto beautiful bush clad hills.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and passionate leader for the position of Deputy Principal Preschool, where you will oversee the Early Childhood sector of the school, including four classrooms and outdoor environment (approximately 100 children), Playgroup, and Before/After School Care. You will become an important member of our innovative and friendly Senior Leadership Team in a highly collaborative working environment. You will also take on the role of Board/Council staff representative, attending meetings where necessary.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Successfully completed an AMI Montessori Diploma (3-6).
  2. Prior experience overseeing/teaching in a Montessori environment.
  3. Current New Zealand teacher registration.
  4. Experience with conducting appraisals, self-reviews, and mentoring and coaching new and experienced teachers.
The successful applicant will have a great sense of humour, love and respect young children, and appreciate the potential inherent in the first plane of development. You will work well with parents, be capable of juggling several tasks at once, and have excellent attention to detail. This position is for a start date in Term 1, end of January 2025.
