- Litigation Management & Strategy : Oversee and manage end-to-end commercial litigation matters from initial instruction to resolution.
- Drafting & Pleadings : Prepare a wide array of legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, witness statements, and submissions. You will draft concise and persuasive documents for use in court proceedings and in negotiations.
- Court Appearances & Advocacy : Represent clients in various jurisdictions, including the Supreme Court, Magistrates/District Courts, and the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal (ACAT). You will appear at hearings, trials, and mediations, advocating effectively on behalf of clients.
- Client Advisory & Relationship Management : Serve as a trusted advisor to clients across a range of industries, including property, construction, and commercial sectors. You will provide sound, timely advice while building and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Building & Construction Disputes : Act as a subject matter expert in building and construction litigation, particularly in relation to the Security of Payments Act (SOPA). You'll work on both back-end disputes and, where applicable, front-end matters to support clients' business objectives within the construction sector.
- Property & Leasing Disputes : Engage in disputes involving property and leasing, advising clients on contentious matters related to property transactions, commercial leases, landlord-tenant disputes, and other real estate-related conflicts.
- Team Collaboration & Mentorship : Collaborate with and provide mentorship to junior solicitors and paralegals within the team, fostering a supportive learning environment.
- Experience: 5 years PQE, ideally most of that spent in commercial litigation.
- Specialisation: Strong experience in Building & Construction litigation (back-end, though both front and back-end experience is advantageous).
- Essential Skills: Expertise in SOPA (Security of Payments Act) is a must.
- Additional Skills: Property experience is beneficial, but not essential.
- Professional Competencies: Exceptional drafting and communication skills. Ability to engage and build strong client relationships and support the lead Partner in building the practice.
