Title:Municipal Enforcement OfficerDepartment:Municipal EnforcementStatus:Full-time permanentSalary:$65,900.13 per annumSettlement Allowance:$20,907.43 per annumUnion Status:UnionizedClosing date:Open until filledUnder the direction of the Chief Municipal Enforcement Officer, the incumbent's primary responsibility is to perform municipal enforcement duties to meet the needs of the City of Iqaluit. These duties include operating marked enforcement vehicles, performing traffic enforcement, taxi industry monitoring/licensing, conducting investigations related to enforcement of City By-laws and other territorial statutes, and assisting with domestic animal control. The officer will lay charges, document evidence, take notes, follow court procedures, maintain records, file reports and appear in court to provide evidence. The officer also operates a wide range of enforcement equipment including firearms and animal control equipment. This position involves carrying an on-call pager and working weekends and holidays.The Municipal Enforcement Officer must conduct themselves in a professional, courteous manner while performing duties. Uniforms and issued equipment must be properly worn and well maintained. The officer must possess an understanding of working with domestic animals, including aggressive ones, and have confidence in order to properly and safely perform the duties required.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSGrade 12 education or equivalent;Valid Nunavut Class 5 Driver's License;Possession and Acquisition License (PAL); PAL Applicants will be considered but are required to obtain license within first three months of employment;Prior experience in Municipal or Law Enforcement, Security, Policing or related field;Knowledge and experience in dealing with By-Laws, Federal Laws and Acts;Ability and self-assurance to conduct investigations, inspections, interviews and dealing with the public;Confidence in dealing with domestic animals;Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite;Good verbal and written communication skills including concise report writing.PREFERRED EXPERIENCEPost-secondary Diploma or Certification in a related field;Previous work experience as a Municipal Enforcement Officer, Constable or Peace Officer;Self-defense, radar, and conflict resolution training;OC spray training and baton certification;Fluency in Inuktitut is a definite asset.Equivalencies that include a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education may be considered.Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate must provide a clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, as well as a TB test.Please apply online at www.iqaluit.ca/careers or drop off your resume at City Hall.The City of Iqaluit embraces the intent and spirit of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.
