Farm Manager

Reference: 9754 NB Consultant: Nine Broodryk Job Description: Business management-organisation, coordination and control:

1. Contribute to the development of Blueberries strategic objectives.
2. Translate these objectives into operational plans with specific targets.
3. Monitor and control operational plans to ensure effective implementation.
4. Ensure long- and short-term operations objectives are formulated within the framework of the Blueberries business strategy and objectives.

Production management:

1. Effectively and efficiently manage the production of the farm as per plan and forecasts.
2. Ensure the maintenance of the farm as per procedures.
3. Ensure coordinated operational activities.

Quality management:

1. Ensure quality assurance.
2. Prioritise activities that maximise the quality of the fruit.

Project Management:

1. Effectively manage the planning, budget, and execution of new plantings and infrastructure builds.
2. Ensure projects are delivered within budget and on time.
3. Ensure projects meet all quality standards.
4. Ensure projects are operationalised within agreed timelines once completed.

Risk management and compliance:

1. Ensure and monitor that risk mitigation measures are in place, adhered to, and monitored regularly.
2. Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and practices in addition to third-party audits and legislation requirements, i.e., Global G.A.P. etc.

Administration and finance – suppliers and service providers:

1. Consult with the Technical department on horticultural best practices.
2. Ensure alignment between external service providers and best-practice information gathered from the technical department.
3. Monitor that suppliers and service providers deliver on quantity and quality expectations in line with resource plans.

Administration and finance – budget control:

1. Draft the annual budget for the farming unit and present it timeously to key stakeholders.
2. Monitor income and costs monthly with deviations analysed and forecasts updated.

Human resources management:

1. Plan and roll out an annual optimal and cost-effective resource plan.
2. Ensure headcount-related costs are in line with the budget.
3. Implement and take accountability for all HR policies, procedures, and initiatives and ensure that control measures are in place to monitor progress.
4. Identify relevant training needs.

Asset management:

1. Purchase machinery, equipment, and supplies, such as tractors, seed, fertiliser, and chemicals within budget and within guidelines provided.

Systems management:

1. Ensure that systems are in place to ensure effective information gathering.
2. Ensure that system and process control measures are in place and implemented to maintain data and information integrity.
3. Ensure that relevant data requirements are available to implement operational plans.

Interpersonal relations and communication:

1. Communicate internally with management, peers, or subordinates and externally with customers, the public, government, and others by providing information by telephone, written format, or email.

Qualifications:

1. A relevant tertiary degree/diploma in agriculture and/or horticulture advantageous.
2. 5–10 years’ relevant farm production experience.
