Skip to content Alice Springs, Alice Springs & Central Australia NT Full time Urapuntja Health Service Aboriginal Corporation (UHS) is seeking a general practitioner for a full time permanent role at our central health precinct located 270 kilometres NE of Alice Springs. Our goal is the provide the highest standard of primary health care to the Alywarr communities, the First Nations people of Utopia Homelands. We have modern infrastructure, exceptional team members, comprehensive benefits, conditions and pay.  Understanding of and experience with Aboriginal community controlled health sector preferred, but for GPs new to remote work in this sector, cultural training and assistance is available. Whilst this position is advertised as a full-time role, part-time will be considered. UHS offers some of the most comprehensive employment benefits in Australia:

  • base salary starting at $250,579.94, plus superannuation
  • additional 24% pa allowance (paid on full-time hours including during paid leave) in lieu of overtime/penalty rates
  • retention bonuses from 3% to 8% (increasing over time)

  • Eligibility for Workforce Incentive Program (WIP) Doctor Stream payments for MMM7 location.
Rostering conditions
  • a “swing cycle”/roster of 6 weeks working on site followed by 2 weeks paid leave 
  • cost of air/road travel to from site to capital city paid by UHS for each swing, if requested

Employee entitlements are subject to the Urapuntja Health Services Enterprise Agreement 2018-2022 . About You To be considered for a General Practitioner role with UHS you must:
  • Hold specialist General Practitioner registration with AHPRA
  • be a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM).
  • Have a broad-based primary care experience in a rural/remote setting, ideally in Indigenous health.
  • be culturally aware with knowledge of current issues impacting remote Indigenous communities.
  • demonstrate sound understanding of the challenges a remote GP faces working and living in a remote area
  • have demonstrated ability to practice in a culturally safe and appropriate manner
  • respect for Aboriginal culture and/or the willingness to engage and learn
  • have demonstrated ability to practice in a culturally safe and appropriate manner
  • be able to work collaboratively and cooperatively with all staff, stakeholders and community members
  • demonstrate ability to maintain electronic patient databases such as Communicare
  • hold current Australian manual ‘C’ Class drivers’ licence with 4WD experience preferred
National Police Clearance (within 3 months) and NT Ochre Card (working with children) is mandatory for these positions. We will assist with application and cost of checks. These positions require direct contact with patients/clients or blood and body substances so are considered “Category A” under the Staff Immunisation for Vaccine Preventable Diseases. To protect our vulnerable community and our staff, successful candidates will be required to maintain up to date vaccinations as detailed in the policy. Our Footprint and Facilities: The Urapuntja Health Service is in Amengernterneah, 23 km north of Arlparra, off the Sandover Highway. Our Health Service team (comprising Clinical and Social Emotional Wellbeing Teams) provide services through our main clinic and Wellbeing Centre at Amengernterneah and as a mobile outreach team, visiting 900+ residents of 16 Homeland communities. The Health Service is set in an area of natural beauty, with comfortable accommodation for our staff including a well-equipped and modern clinic, a Social and Emotional Wellbeing Centre, men and women’s centres, and a gym.
