MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To ensure an efficient and professional pharmaceutical service is provided to the hospital and public.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

1. Lead and manage the people in the department.
2. Manage pharmaceutical stock (own, loan and consignment).
3. Manage and mitigate departmental risks.
4. Manage and control departmental budgets / finances.
5. Deliver a safe and efficient pharmaceutical service.
6. Provide an out-patient pharmacy service.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION B Pharm / BSc Pharm.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE 3 years working as a pharmacist in a community or institutional/hospital pharmacy. DESIRED EXPERIENCE 3-5 years supervisory or managerial experience in an institutional/hospital pharmacy.

REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

1. Risk management processes and procedures.
2. Pharmacy and related healthcare industry.
3. Ethical and surgical product knowledge.
4. Relevant Pharmacy legislation (e.g. Pharmacy Act; Good pharmacy practice; Medicine Control Act 101 of 1965).
5. Medical Aid Scheme benefits; regulations and formularies.
6. Clinical pharmacy and antimicrobial stewardship.
